REAL
KIDS AFTER-SCHOOL
Serving 100 youth, ages 9-12, year-round, the REAL Kids
After-School Program (Reading and Enrichment Academy for Learning) develops academic,
social, and emotional skills.
Youth participate in:
- hands-on projects in the classroom focusing on teamwork
and conflict resolution
- nutritional programs to promote healthy eating habits
- a readers workshop to build literacy skills
- instructional and competitive baseball and softball leagues
REAL Kids After-School participants:
- Improve reading skills
- Improve attitudes toward reading
- Improve ability to avoid and/or resolve conflict
- Improve speaking and listening skills
- Gain knowledge about nutrition and change dietary choices
- Improve physical health and engage in daily physical activity
