The annual Bids for Kids gala for Harlem RBI and DREAM Charter School raised $2.7 million this year, another record-breaking event! We're so humbled and excited to see the support for East Harlem youth grow every year. All funds will further the Harlem RBI and DREAM mission to inspire youth to recognize their potential and realize their dreams.
More than 850 guests filled the Cipriani 42nd venue for the event, which celebrated the success of Harlem RBI and DREAM over the past 21 years and looked ahead to the bright future of the organization and its plans to expand services to cities beyond East Harlem. The event also honored Miles S Nadal, CEO and Chairman of MDC Partners, for his dedication and support of Harlem RBI and DREAM.
The event featured the first-ever performance of the DREAM Charter School Choir, the world premiere of the Harlem RBI | DREAM Charter School 2012 Film, and a surprise presentation to honor the 15-year anniversary of Executive Director Rich Berlin, who began as a volunteer coach during the organizations's humble beginnings. Jose Agosto, a then 12-year old member of the first Harlem RBI team Rich coached, surprised the Executive Director with an honorary Monarchs jersey. "He taught me what it means to be a man," said Jose, "and showed me through his actions what it is to be a better person." The event also honored and acknowledged the 2012 graduating seniors.
A special thanks goes out to gala chairs, Gary D. Cohn of Goldman Sachs, Mark Teixeira of the New York Yankees and Donald Truesdale of Goldman Sachs, as well as gala committee members whose efforts made the event an enormous success.
If you missed this year's event, make sure to join us for next year!
